DichroicGlass.net is a manufacturer, reseller, retailer and wholesaler of dichroic glass cabochons, instructional materials, jewelry making tools and supplies. We are a small business located in Provo, UT, owned and operated by Julie Rorden and Norma Gould. Julie and Norma have worked together since 1989.
In 2001, well-known glass artist, Linda Abbott, introduced award winning jewelry designer, fused glass artist, photographer, and teacher, Julie Rorden, to the possibilities of working with dichroic glass. Linda and Julie have collaborated on several projects over the years, and have taught at trade shows together such as the Bead & Button Show in Milwaukee and the Glass Craft & Bead Expo in Las Vegas.
Linda had been making dichroic glass cabochons for other jewelry artists who said that her cabochons were different than others they have seen on the market. Her pieces frequently have been called “glass opals” or “micro-universes” because of the depth they contain. After decades of working as a glass artist, Linda recently retired, but not before she taught Julie how to make her coveted dichroic glass cabochons and turning her website, DichroicGlass.net, into Julie’s capable hands. Julie will continue to make Linda’s “galaxy” dichroic cabs, which have become an underground favorite among glass jewelry makers wanting to differentiate themselves from artists creating the type of dichroic glass jewelry more commonly sold.
Norma Gould, Julie’s business partner, is a retired college professor and psychotherapist. Her keen people skills, teaching experience, and business knowledge are the perfect complement to Julie’s creative ventures and imagination.
Julie is known for her innovative approach to jewelry making, functional art, distinctive designs, and passion for teaching. Images of her work have been published in books and various other forms of media. Integrating her love of photography, travel, history, and geology, with her study of ancient cultural jewelry making techniques and symbolism gives her art work its unique, yet timeless beauty. As a teacher, Julie subtly pushes her students to step outside their comfort level and master new techniques or art mediums. She believes in her students and what they are capable of achieving. Over the years, written teacher evaluations and in-class student comments frequently refer to her knowledge, patience, and calming influence
Julie loves to interact with her students and other artists through the exchange of ideas, comments, stories, and images. Join her on Facebook and Twitter.
